Dumb question. They have the same size of coverage area correct? From the website it seems like both are 24" x 24", but I could be wrong.

Hi,

We don’t say dumb questions, because there are none :)

There are a few factors we need to know to help. Tank dimensions and stocking plans really help drive making decisions on lamp.

The 160 is more for pico, nano, even refuge. The 360 is more powerful. The 160 says up to 24, but at that spread there will be shadowing and significant drop in par towards outer bands. The 360 has 2 lens angles to fit different needs.

Tank length and depth will really help

The website is quite confusing in that regard. Broadly, I’ve found the 160 to handle 15x15 well; the 360we 24x24.

@Mastiffsrule @ca1ore thank you both. My tank is 24"L and 20"H. At the moment I couldn't afford the A360we. The 160 fits my budget. I keep mostly sofities with the exception of the Duncan and birdsnest.

So @ca1ore the 160 only covers 15" x15" ? That's quite narrow :(

It does depend a lot on what you are trying to keep. I’ve pushed a couple to 18x18, but mostly I set them up for 15x15. It’s a nice light, but only 40 watts.

Kessil released their new 360x; more power, wider coverage, more control.
With this release, the price of used a360we came down substantially. A nice used a360we could be had for about $225.
This is all going to depend on your preference. Whether you mind used lights or not. Personally I'd rather have a used a360we than a new 160.
