Just ordered this for growing Cheto, anyone compared this to the AI grow light? I run 4 of the 360w Blues on my display... So what I was wondering is can I control my 160H through the older controller? I was gonna get the AI grow light but got the Kessil hoping to plug it in to port 2 .

This is a great question, I wonder if @Crabs Mcjones has an answer? I know they make an H series controller, I'd imagine you can control it with port 2. The colors may not match up like the H series controller.

Great question :) unfortunately I'm not familiar with ai's grow light, but I use the H380 and my uncle uses the H160. The controller is only capable of running one program at a time, so you couldn't independently control the H160 with the same controller your a360s are on. But if you have a timer or an apex or similar controller, simple on-off cycles work great with this light :)

So i can only control the intensity and color not the time on and off. In other words When my 360s are so will my grow light correct?

Actually I take that back. I think you can run two different schedules. On the controller there should be a setting for each port. I've never ran a H series light off of an A series controller before though. I believe it's still 0-10volt control though.

Ok cool I thought you could run 2 schedules, like you said I hope I can run the H series on the A controller. I will let you know how it goes. Light should be here on Tuesday.

You said your uncle uses the H160 how does he like it? And how do you think it compares to the 380? I almost bought the 380 but after reading a bunch of posts of burning or bleaching the cheto I decided to go for the 160.

The h380 is not externally controllable. Which is fine for me as I use my apex. It simply turns on at 10pm and off at 6 am. No need for ramp up or ramp down or color changing. Chaeto can easily die if not acclimated to the light. But once its adjusted it's a powerhouse of nutrient removal.

Hes loving it so far. Growing macro algae like crazy. I went with the H380 because simply at that time it's all that was offered. The H160 hadn't hit the market yet and the H80 wasnt powerful enough :)

Great sounds like I made the right choice!! Cant wait to start growing macro.. I have some big fish and a Brazilian Banana eel so It will be nice to have something removing the nutrients. I have a Gold Back trigger in my sump, hes a little to big for my 300. I need to sell him but don't have enough posts yet to list him for sale.

Eats like a vacuum cleaner which is good but my H tusk is a push over he wont eat if the trigger is in the display with him. I hate that I have to even get rid of him defintly one of the most beautiful triggers.. Other than a foot long Queen Trigger lol.

Does the macro keep the surface algae down also for example: glass rock and sand? The annoying brown that covers everything or you still need snails and sand sifters?
