I have had my Red Sea Reefer 350 up and running for about one year. I am new to corals and am wondering if other than ramping up and down through my Apex if controls on the Kessil fixtures themselves make a huge difference. How do I know how to set them or it is personal preference? Does it make a difference for coral growth?

If you are referring to light intensity then yes it matters. Some corals found in shallow reefs like strong light while others from deeper reefs like dimly lit tanks. For example, Acropora corals have much higher lighting needs than chalices. As to what intensity you should set on your fixtures depends if these are Kessil A160s or A360s, and the type of corals you are keeping. Start low and increase intensity slow. When your corals are open and happy it means you hit the right spot.

I have the A360s and only plan on keeping softies and perhaps a anemone eventually or flower anemones.

My tank is 24" deep with about 3 1/2" - 5" of sand.
I have the light mounted at 9" above the rim of the tank
light cycle is as follows:

10:00AM Color 0 Intensity 10
1:00PM Color 30 Intensity 40
3:00PM Color 60 Intensity 70
4:00PM Color 80 Intensity 100
7:30PM Color 40 Intensity 50
9:00PM Color 0 Intensity 0

I have not started to add corals yet, but the light cycle will remain the same and tank will be mixed reef (heavier lps side)

I run 3 A360W over my 165. I also use my Apex to ramp them up and down through intensity and color.

What I found through trial and error was I was way over intense on my lighting. I ended up spending a lot more time in the lower/bluer spectrums, and only go above 50% for a very short time. If you go to the Neptune Apex forums, there are a lot of great examples of lighting ramp graphs that are great.
