I purchased this chalice as a frag from Steve Tyree last fall. I had it mounted almost horizontal about 20 inches underneath an Aquaconnect 250. It has grown well but has always had a bit of brown around the rim. Today I remounted it almost vertically and about 3 to 4 inches lower. I'm hoping to get the green color to be more uniform. If pookstreet is out there maybe he can give me his advice. It is my understanding that he has the original colony.

Hi Robin, look like you've had some awesome growth on yours! From experience, this coral tend to lose the brown as it grows bigger. I've had various sizes of it in addition to the mother colony, which is about 5-6" across. The smaller it is, the more brown there is. Don't know exactly why that is but that's always been the case. Right now, the mother colony has a bit of brown on the rim mixed in with the green. The body is is completely green with a darker green ring around each eye.

It's also very sensitive to strong light. It's been in the same location for the last year and a half, about 30" beneath the light and slightly off to the side, slanted about 45 degrees towards the front. It's never been happier than where it is now. Just an example, when I switched from DE Phoenix 250's in LM3's to the current Radium 250's in LM Elites, it bleached out a bit b/c the light was stronger, but fully recovered in a few weeks. HTH.

Here are a couple of pix of the mother colony back in March.

Very nice! I have a large colony that looks the same, I am hoping that the colors become more intense.... We all know how that is.

Thanks for the information Kenny. It sounds like I may have guessed right with my choice for it's new location. Interesting how it loses the brown as it gets larger. Hopefully that will also be the case with mine.

Thank you again.

I recently traded a month ago, and got a 3 eye frag of this chalice. It now has 6 eyes. Mine is starting to lose the brown as well as it grows. It's turning green. :) It 's a nice piece in person. :D

It is a nice chalice and, as you've seen, it grows very fast. It's one of my favorites.
