I used Flucon to help with bryopsis but it ALWAYS comes back. Could be a less pure FLuconazole, and perhaps the ReefHD is higher purity/quality. It also claims to do much more, in the fluconazole thread nobody has said anythin about it killing bubble algae, but I have stopped keeping up awhile ago so maybe now there's some info there.
The HD seems different. Even killed off my macros.
The other stuff wiped out my by bryo fast. Not everyone’s.
Kinda interesting.

I will say, for the rest of this thread, red Valonia was one of the serious scourges of reefdom for decades.

Chris, hate to say but you cannot run the skimmer. Phosphates killing things is a total myth, look at all the aquariast of the year, most of them have very high nitrates and phosphates.

But besides that point... You need to have the skimmer off or meds will barely be effective. Sorry to say :(
Well in the five days that I pulled my homemade skimmer out I went from 1.to 5. And the swing took my red Ferrari and one of my like $200 burgers for 20 bucks and freaked so added it back and no issues. I use it more like a oxygenator and then up the air and pull the dry then let it go back down I’ll show a pic. So I kind of let it just sit there with the medicine and then let it drop down recirculated and then suck out the dry skin meet by pushing the pump up and I mean air pump because it’s driven by a wood stone

I wonder how prolonged use would bug my Acros.. Aside from the darn bubble algae everything is looking great right now.

wow @Lord Chris -- that's a pretty intense swing. Maybe you're one of the outliers that does need to be mindful. I've not seen a swing that big ever, but I have seen Richard Ross keep his po4 above 5.00 (not a typo, five point zero) and have not only no issues, but thriving colorful coral.

I would think it's the big swing rather than the numbers themselves. BUT, that's a different topic.

And I turn the skimmer off the first 24 hours both reactors it says turn off for three days so that’s why 24 hours goes by I turn them on then I’ll do a water change and then add another At the three day point so that is basically like a extended dose. It’s woking slowly. I went from I would have to say about 300 little clusters to now very few select that I can pick

Good results. I'm going to try and cut feedings way back for a couple weeks to see if emerald crabs can get going on it. My son's algea is just starting to get a foothold.
It takes a group effort I have three and I pick when I can!! Then the meds gets the cant reach 1s so it can do its job. It’s not a magic pill..... it is a medicine that helps slow their growth down and then you need to cut their fuel and that’s po4. So it’s y I run my skimmer and will use more meds so my corals don’t stress and just takes more time and a 2nd bottle at 16$ now so wow. Thank god!!!!

Yes I can test right now for you and it’ll come up probably at 1.2 but it was at 4.8 the other day. No joke and I have gone from reef Roids because the ash count was too high and that fuels phosphate so I changed to chili at 4% and makes a large difference right off the bat it’s manageable versus trying to keep it down versus able to.. My girl recently just purchased me a low range and I told her it’s only usable for my 75 gallon because my 20 is so packed or overstocked that I have to feed heavily and everything and it’s also a hang on back

That’s my 20g. And my issues. I am waiting to clean the glass when the treatment is done and can filter it out. My local store gives me coral because I’m able to keep them alive And get purple out of green slimers and I’m figuing here using me but hey. I’ll take free You can probably see why I have a hard time getting rid of my bubble algae now

Holy cow does bubble algae grow FAST. It's insane! I went from 1 cluster on a frag that I didn't pick off in time...to having clusters of 5-10 all over the tank...on the rocks etc.

I just finished the treatment but I never turned off my skimmer, I just took the collection cup off and covered it. It killed 99% of the bubble algae and had no effect on any of my acros , Gonis or clam. I will be doing another month of treatment starting next weekend. I will say the effects started to fade at week 3 and not at week 4 for me

I have just recently had some regrowth of Valonia (4-5 small bubbles on a powerhead). This is after having a massive amount of Valonia wiped out by the 4x Bryopsis dose. Discouraging, but hopefully cleaning the powerhead externally (vinegar bath and scrub) will fix that.

I really don't like Valonia!

Taking off the skimmer cup was actually what I was thinking of doing myself. It just more beneficial to have the skimmer aerating the water and keeping pH up in my opinion.

I'm going to be trying this soon. I've got a 2x dose of Fluconazole, but not enough for a 4x dose. Considering going the whole 9 yards and just picking up a second bottle to be sure.

2.5 weeks in on a 4x dose to murder my bubble algae. The bubbles are turning pale. Maybe a few that have not started to die... hard to tell right now. Hair algae also fading in color.
Skimmer has been on for a few days now.

I'm also dosing with ethanol and peroxide to stress the algae more. Extra lighting on the tank as it seems this causes more stress as well.

This sounds promising.. I thinking of trying a 4x dose worth of Fluconazole to see if it will kill off the bubbles hiding in the cracks!

Yeah I was gonna bump this thread yesterday but I forgot about it. Anybody have updates on their tanks that decided to experiment with this?

I have a 2x dose in there now (more on the way) it's been almost a week now and all the bubble algae is getting pale. I'll be adding the other 2x dose soon as it arrives.

Some of my zoas seem very stressed, most are fine.

All SPS is fine. All lps and shrooms are fine. Just a couple zoas seem to be a little retracted.

Do you think its better to do 2x,, 2xdose or a single 3x or 4x dose?
have you noticed any negative effect on fish or coral?
