If you have ever gotten rid of dinos how did you do it

Never got completely rid of them they are still present but never a pest and they often disappear completely because they are out-competed in my tank.

I had a dinos breakout (Ostreopsis) when I turned up my white channels on my LEDs. I turned down the whites, set my temp to 81, added about a pound of live rock from another reefers tank, and did manual removal with small water changes. Took about two weeks to clear up.

Yes. Dosed nitrate and phosphate and put UV in tank. Dino strain was Ostreopsis.

Got rid of it twice. Long ago it took months with many interventions.

Last month I got them again, Amphidinium and Ostreopsis.

First I did Cruz Arias (Elegant Corals) regimen form Amphidinium.

Then I used UV for ostreopsis.

Dinos gone from the reef, even on microscopic analysis.

Not the person you directed this towards but I’m currently fighting Dino’s/cyano and I have been increasing my nitrates and phosphates with neonitro and neophos.

Did nothing but keep the big 3 stable, stoped aminos, and kept no3 5-10ppm and po4 .1-.15. before I did this was was fighting them for about a year, adding this bacteria, micro bubbles, silica dosing, blackouts, raising temps all that crazy stuff. Turns out mother nature was the fix - stability.

Removed my macro algae, which led to trace nitrate and phosphate.
Kept them in balance, my phosphate is about 1/10th of my nitrate.
Added UV.
All gone in two weeks.

Brightwell makes two products; neophos and neonitro. There are others but I had these at work so I bought them.

Im Fighting Dinos now. Everyday I blow it off the rocks with a powerhead and the socks are changed every day during the evening feeding while the tank is down. Nitrates and phosphates are 0.00 I think thanks to the refugium that is full of chaeto algae about 3 x 3 x 3 foot square . If I was to remove the chaeto to help raise nitrates and phosphates can I do it all at once or should I remove it in thirds over a few weeks so as not to cause any issues. I hope im on the right track here.

Tune the refugium time down (if possible) and dose nitrate and phosphate.

If you have ever gotten rid of dinos how did you do it

I can start here and say that I believe I have won.

I'm about 4 days of watching serious decline of the dino population in my tank. In all the research I did I realized a few things that I won't bother with here unless interested, but what is interesting was how marked the change was once I raised my tank temperature from 80 degrees to 82 degrees.

Notes of consideration:
- 135 gallon mixed reef ~6 months old
- Second time getting dino overtake (1st one just went away one day, now I think it may have happened during a California heat wave where my tank's temp was high for about 7 days)
- My cause was likely due to zero nitrates and zero phosphates
- I did/do not have a microscope (recommended I will plan to get one eventually)
- I did/do not have a UV filter
- No macro algae in sump yet

What was the behavior of my Dinos?
- Mostly gone during the evening, then blooms brown snotty stringy nastiness that is over the rocks and corals during the day. This stuff is nasty and sticky

First Strategy: Remove as much as possible as often as possible and overfeed to raise nutrient levels

Every evening I was using a scrub brush and a turkey baster blowing out the dinos with all powerheads on and using a python siphon going from tank into a sock in my sump. This gave me three socks collecting while I was scrubbing. I decided that after doing this for about two weeks straight, this wasn't working and the prescriptive strategy had to change.

Second Strategy: Dose BrightWell NeoNitro &Neophos to raise nitrates to 10ppm and phosphate to .15, also increased phytofeast feeding

Third strategy: All out assault plus the secret weapon!
- Heat turned up from 80 degrees to 82 degrees over a few hours
- Scrub/siphon during mid day full bloom, then a second one right around 9pm
- Nutrients: Nitrates 10ppm NO4 0.15
- Dosing different beneficial bacteria alternating each night after the cleaning (removed the socks and turn off skimmer overnight)

What changed after I implemented my third strategy?
- After 24 hours it was clear I had weakened the population, the bloom that day was there but slightly darker brown and seemed to look less snotty less strong
- Since then there are no more day blooms
- I have mostly observed, but did do a quick vacuum that first night
- On day three I did see a little come back so I scrubbed and siphoned
- On day four it's visible in some small hard to reach spots in the tank but nothing like before

I'm now on day 4 after implementing this strategy and it's clear my battle with dinos is coming to a close.

I believe this was the secret weapon, which I stumbled upon this after many hours of reading forums, blogs and watching YouTube videos and talking to LFS's.
