Kinda new. Heres my simple setup

Names phil. Been taking care of freshwater fish for 5 years.. Decided to venture onward to saltwater. Found myself staring at corals for hours at the lps. Wich wasn't much help when i decided to purchase might i add.. Lol but i have a 20 gal with 10 gal sump. 10 lbs of live rock. Small ps. Very simple setup. I live paycheck to paycheck but im fortunate to have what i have. Currently i have 8 coral a cleaner shrimp and 3 clownfish. 2 radioactive green pals a toadstool, orange zoa 2 hammercoral a gonapora that im having trouble with opening all the way. A gsp? Not sure what that one is. But im happy to be apart of this and i will post updates here as my ventures grow. Thanks for reading

Hey I’m going to tell all of you something..... I know of a great fish for your new reef........... a Molly! Allow me to explain, mollies are a brackish water fish meaning they can live in a reef tank, and get this they love to eat hair algae which I’m sure that you will have an outbreak of at some point in time. Added a hang on 1 gal refugium/ extra chamber.. Some microalgae and a couple snails.. Woke up and noticed some brown algae in my sand.. Plan on buying a uv light that will go inside my overflow box. I dont really want to use chemical to get rid of the algae. Any suggestions? Diatom alge removal. Mainly in my sand. I cleaned the glass with a soft sponge like material to trap what i could while cleaning it. Idk.

Nice and welcome to the hobby! You’re already many steps ahead of me as I’m still waiting to return to China in the midst of this virus situation. Everything is still hypothetical for me as I’m taking notes and making plans.

How are your three (I assume Ocellaris) Clowns getting along? Do you plan to add any more fish or other livestock? I heard no more than two clowns should be kept in a single tank, regardless of species (I could be wrong).

That is generally the rule...BUT, clowns in the wild live in large groups called harems. BRS actually has a clown harem tank. Its only the rule because it is easiest

What if I put 3 Ocellaris or maybe 2 Ocellaris 1 Percula, or even mix Clownfish complexes? Say, 2 Ocellaris + 1 Tomato or Cinnamon. I heard the Maroons and Clarkii’s are aggressive. What about mixing clowns and damsels? (I’m only looking at the genuses Chromis and Chrysiptera)

Thanks for the warm welcome as for my clownfish. They get along fine but thats because there all different sizes. Im hoping the large one will turn female and pair up. Maybe breed some. We will see. I want a decent cleanup crew so i might add a few more livestock but not sure yet. Open to suggestions. But im trying to keep it simple because i have such a small setup. Corals are my main interest. Dont have many yet but im getting more. Being layed off because of this virus really sucks but i just need to be patient. I wish i had friends that sent eachother frags lol would be cheaper. I know some of these guys have overgrown tanks. Haha

i wish i knew.. You sound like your more advanced than me on different species of fish. I will admit i am a beginner. This is my first saltwater tank so im learning as i go.

I wouldn't recommend mixing the species either. Tomato and cinnamon clowns are pretty aggressive as well, but imo maroons take the cake. If two of them do pair up, pay extra attention to the one that's alone as he WILL be bullied sometimes to death. I have 2 maroons and started with 4 blue damsels. Now I have 2 damsels left. Between the maroons and the other damsels there was only so much time between them. However tank size plays a big part, as well as breaking the tank up sightline wise, for territory purposes. My tank was a 72 gallon for reference.

Side note, maybe bump your salinity up a point or 2. Not entirely necessary though. What type of light do you have on the tank?
