I have done some experimenting with this coral because some people wonder how I got the orange rim so thick.

In my tests, I found that the more direct light it gets, the more vibrant and thick the rim gets. Same applies for the orange in the mouths. Also, only the direct areas turn orange. For example, if half is in the shade, it will more than likely keep the green rim on that half.

I recently moved my colony from indirect light, where the rim was primarily green, to direct light and now the green rim is turning back bright orange.
