Hard to get the whole pond in a picture

I'm not the one to talk to about snakes. Can't even look at them on TV. I've actually left job sites until my boss took the snakes away or at least told me they were taken away. A simple cave in the lowest section of the pond is a very good way to keep the fish protected. We also use sprinklers with a motion sensor for ponds with predatory birds, a lot of blue heron in my area.

We have a couple small lakes around us already. It's water moccasin and copperhead territory. It's not usual to find them on my porch. We even had a python show up one day.

I'm renting right now but I plan to build a pond when we buy/build in a couple years.

This Thread is Great @kschweer ! My ultimate goal when I get my house in about 4 years is to make a 200 ft^2 pond with two bridges that connect to an island carrying a gazebo on it! It will be a project all right but hopefully well worth it. Perks of being a future Medical Physicist

Thank you!!! Best of luck with the future pond!! I should have some new pictures tomorrow maybe end of the day today. The company I'm working for is helping out on a big water feature for the past 2 days.

Not great pictures but I had to share. Got to see this amazing pond at a bbq after the job I'm helping work on. For scale it's 65'x65' and the depth varies from 3' to almost 9' in some spots.

Pretty much finished up. Needs to be pumped out a few times to clear the water a bit more. In total there is a lot 13,000-15,000gph running through there.

Awesome stuff. I want to build Mr. Miyagi stile back yard :) and have koi ponds running through(I dream big just need the money).
One of these days I will get to posting my pond and fish. Only about 700 - 800 gal but it is a nice greeting when you walk up to the house

I have one... inherited it with the home we bought. It's a real mess darn thing didnt even come with a basic filtration......but I'm working on it. lol give me a year.

these are all beautiful. is it common for koi ponds to attract mosquitos and larvae? or do they get eaten up pretty quickly? I'm im DC and a bucket of water left out on a hot day will have millions of mosquito babies and swarms of adults flying around if not taken care of.

Thank you! In a properly constructed and planned out pond mosquitos usually aren't an issue. As you said the koi eat the larvae. Also there's a good amount of moving water through them. The big pond I posted has 1 8000gph pump for the main waterfall, a 5000gph pump for the smaller falls and another 5000gph pump ran through a manifold to jets around the pond similar to a closed loop for circulating. With that much moving water it's not nearly an "attractive" spot for mosquitos to breed.

The last one I posted has no pond just a disappearing waterfall but again moves a
Ton of water 12000-15000 gph again not a good spot for mosquitos.
