Any tank is better than a tank swarming with velvet parasites that are reproducing at an exponential rate overwhelming your fish and your efforts to save them.

You can even use buckets or a Rubbermaid tote if you need to

Ok, I am terrified of all this

Does copper kill beneficial bacteria on the sponge?

Use of a bottled bacteria like biospira will help control ammonia in qt. Do NOT use prime when using copper

I suggest you pull out the tang and any fish showing immediate signs of velvet and start treatment before it’s too late in your 20 gallon. Tomorrow you should go out and purchase additional tank to house the remaining fish. Like mentioned before in numerous post prior, purchase a bottle of nitrifying bacteria to keep ammonia in check. Ammonia will rise quick so have back up saltwater ready for large water changes if need be.

In regards to copper, use half recommended dose initially and slowly raise throughout the next couple days. It’s best to split the doses am/pm. Make sure you’re testing the levels before adding each dose.

Dividers are good too. Larger tank is better to prevent water swings such as ammonia, temperature, etc.. but you definitely need to move quick on this. Setup what you have and move the fish that worse off currently. Just pre plan on making fresh water cuz you’ll need it. Get ammonia badges for your tanks. Earlier in this thread I listed all needs for start up QT.

Yes thank you I am ordering 4 things and will hope to have them by tomorrow or the next day and untill I get those I am gonna be extremely careful with what I dose and how I take care of the tank! I might pick up the ammonia tester badge tomorrow since that is very important and I can’t test it with my test kit. I have a air pump but no air stone so I’m ordering air stone and copper test kit, some dividers, and a small powerhead for better circulation! I have a heater air pump and pipe. Anything else that you need?

Since I read it earlier and it's fresh in my mind; poly fiber like the filters in Marineland hobs will also absorb copper so don't use any poly

As soon as I put him in qt he wasn’t doing very good (topping on his side and upside down) so I put him back in display! I didn’t acclimate but the temp was almost the same.

Sorry to hear that. Try using water form your DT to fill your QT. The water chemistry will remain the same and will help reduce stress. Slowly add copper so he adjusts accordingly.

Put him back in and start treating, the unfortunate reality is that he likely won't make it but it's the best chance he has right now. I hope he pulls through for you
