Hey guys,

Was wondering if using this bowl in my saltwater aquarium would be safe? I wanted to use it as an anemone bowl. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

True lacquer bowls are coated wood, so not safe and might float. I think there are faux lacquerware that is plastic, don’t know if that is safe.

Hi Jay thank you for the response. I’m trying to understand more, is it unsafe due to the “leaching” of chemicals factor?

Just a guess here- these are safe for food, so shouldnt be toxic for fish. If they are marked dishwasher safe, they may even last for a time. My guess is that though they will eventually get waterlogged and fall apart. I still worry it may float!

maybe a porcelain or ceramic wtih a fired (kiln) clear coat (glass basically) bowl would be safest?

As long as it’s a clear coat... the colored coats (glaze) have/had metals in them to make the colors... idk.. glass is pretty non porous in general though. Never really thought about this much in terms of putting pottery in a reef tank. Hah.
