Lasses Dream Build

There is other things than fish and corals in my aquarium. Latest video that shows one of my (scary) beauties. Look 2.28 into the video in order to find a counter-evidence to one of the myths about snails

Sincerely Lasse

Love this video! Was the Conch getting stung by that (Chalice?) coral at 2:28?

No - he/she discovered gravity😂 Like Newton but it was him/herself that fell -not an apple

Lasse’s tank is amazing! I really like the natural reef look and the way he focuses on biological filtration instead of relying too heavily on equipment. There’s a lot to learn from this build, especially about keeping nutrients stable.

I have a thief in my aquarium

The good and the bad. It could be worse - I have a Blenny who eats the entire polyp.

I have had a lot of different Seriatopora species (hystrix and caliendrum) since I start this aquarium. They are fast growing and rather beautiful sps corals. The setback with them is that they grow like weed but suddenly they no longer want to be part of your aquarium - instead, they bleach and die within a day. Its unclear if it is because of water parameters or caused by microorganism or a combination of those two. My believe is the later - its a combination.

Last time was a year ago and I had to throw away a 20 L bucket with Seriatopora and the tank looks like this after the slaughter

A couple of days ago - its looks like this

A rather good growth - but yesterday it was time for bleaching again and reconstruction of a part of the reef.
This part has to go. However - I do not know if I have stopped the process or not. The coming day will show if its over or not. One of the reason this time was that the left colony had grow up over the surfaces

Mysterious , and disheartening I would like to know the answer. I have a Kiwi tree that has been " deflated " now for a couple of weeks . I am trying to backtrack to see if it recovers. The only drastic things I did was to purposely overdose A- and K+ , and add two large netted bags of Carbon in the sump. I have not dosed for over a week, did water change , and removed the Carbon. Three days later a slight positive change. So for you possible things you have done ? I had the same experience with Seriatopora wanting to take over . I had to cut it back three times. Just what was trying to engulf my other Coral . A couple of months later it does not do it anymore , which I found a little eerie

Its probably not over because I got some damage on a blue Stylophora that was in contact with my hystrix. We will see wats going to happen - still some large colonies of both Seriatopora and stylophora not affected.

Sincerely Lasse

I´m rather sure that this is something caused by a microorganism of some type. I got one blue Stylophora colony attacked and I have to cut away damage part aggressively. It seems that it has stopped the "disease" on that colony. Sad to say - there is sign that´s one of my other Seriatopora colonies may get it too. Its difficult to cut so I will wait and see. I have also dosed H2O2 since I discovered the disease and started my Oxidator today.

This is all new to me . Hope all goes well

Of cause it will go well - either the ones I have will recover or I get such a large open area that I can get new corals 🤣 Today all space is occupied - and also probably the reason why it start to go south.

Yeah, that is about how it works and what I see while scuba diving.. Corals, and reefs, are built on the top of skeletons of older, dead, corals. I have some of that going on in my system that I need to reach in and clear out. Probably would help a ton with flow clearing the dead area out.

Hope your weekend is well.

It doesn’t look like there will be any new corals, as the “disease” that caused my corals to lose tissue seems to have ceased. Here is what I did: wherever possible, I cut away the affected parts, and I also restarted my oxidator. Additionally, I applied hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) locally on two occasions.

Sincerely, Lasse

Hi Lasse: I completely agree with you concerning Seriatopora. I have also had different colonies that grew up like weed and then, suddenly and very quickly, they decay and bleach completely. Cutting the diseased parts sometimes work, sometimes doesn't.
Anyway, congratulations for your tank
