any one who knows what could be the cause of all my 8 leathers open one day and next closed, then a day open and then a day closed ? As per ICP all is ok. PO4 is about 0.1 to 0.08; No3 is about 20 to 40. Temp 25; salinity 34 constantly. I dose ATI Essentials PRO plus extra iodide. no other extra's such as Manganese, Strontium,... My LPS, SPS and ears are doing very well. Only my leathers have issues, all at the same time. Philips Coral Cares are 75/85 giving 100 to 150 par at the bottom, 350 to 400 below water surface.

Just the life of a leather. While having dinner one night, I was admiring how beautiful the leather looked. A few minutes late I told my daughter to look at it and it was completely closed lol

It will stay closed for two months at a time. Then it will shed, open up a few days, and close up again. Or sometimes it will stay open for months at a time. It is just one of my corals I do not read too much into, i just have to accept it for who it is

I have a bunch of leathers.... and have no clue what really sets them off sometimes. I have on one side of the tank a neon toadstool open... and on the other side.... closed up and dormant for days at a time. Then... both opened.... I have some neon finger leather that one day looks amazing....and then the next.... like it is dead.

I do know that as they grow... the will slough off tissue at times. The will also start to split and send off pieces to populate other parts of the tank. I have some devils paws that grow like weeds in one tank... and reproduce like this non-stop. I have a large neon toadstool that the head one day all of a sudden split into 6 or 7 pieces... later.... I found some in another part of the tank....growing.

I am not sure this is much help. But...leathers can be a bit squirrely....but are also very hardy.

Mine always looks terrible for a few days before it sheds. I'm used to it now, but when I first got it, I thought it was dying a few times.
