So I have a 2x Japanese leathers and a toadstool leather. Had them for maybe almost a year now and they have always just fell over at least twice a week if not more. They seem happy and keep getting bigger and bigger.

Question is: Is this normal behavior?

When they are upset they shrivel up and get floppy. Some do it more often than others. Usually they shed when they do which results in growth. My sinu does this all the time, with practically daily swings.
I wouldn’t be concerned as long as all parameters are in check and everything else is healthy.

Sometimes they are telling you something. Like flow is low, light is not right, or I am shedding. Usually they are a lot like teenagers. They need there time out and get mad for goodness knows why for unknown and varying amounts of time.

The larger they get, the more their ‘cycle’ may get noticed by you; there is more to flop over now, as they shrink / shed / expand again.

Mine flop every time I turn on my feed cycle, they don’t like still water it seems!
Yep…every dang w/c for me. By the time they are all happy again, it’s water change day ;Facepalm

I agree. This seems normal. Mine did it quite frequently when I first got him. Watching closely day by day I could see that it was doing it to reorient itself. Then once it stayed upright he was fine. Until he started growing. He would do it again but mostly his cap would change shape only to expand more over the next few weeks. Then there is the shedding behavior. He does the flopping/ closed hand thing at night. Seems like he wants to get the most out of the daytime light. Very rare for him to be closed up or flopped during the day.

Thanks all! Glad to know it’s normal. It’s already popping it’s head back up lol drama queen is correct. It’s been doing it so long I never cared to ask. But I figured better safe than sorry.

Really appreciate all the good info!

These look nice ‘now,’ right? You should see them in the morning before the lights come on— it looks like the “Valley of the Dammed” :(
