What up r2r people!

Super bored at work and since I’ve been setting up a new system, this question has been on my mind and I want hear from anyone I can! What is your personal method for element management? How long have you been doing it? Had any corals die? Any specific coral thriving above the others? What was your method for dialing it in - based off just calc/alk/mag? Icp? Moonshiners? Doing anything for trace elements beside WC?

This isn’t to find the “answer”, it’s just to hear from people about what they’re doing and what they’re noticing. In real life I’ve got a shocking amount of range on this question, especially from a few people who just stick to WC’s and don’t over complicate. the only thing I haven’t run into in real life in moonshiners, so curious to hear from people who are actually doing that stuff.

Bonus points if you have a FTS!

I’ll start:
This system is about a year and a half old:

It’s on AFR, set using calc and occasional alk adjustments, and a lazy WC regime of 5g (~12%) every 2weeks but lately more like a month or two.
The good:
I’ve had some coral absolutely THRIVE in here, specifically the green plate coral was maybe a nickel size when I got it in June/July of last year I think? It’s now ~3” at full extension, and has popped out a baby. The other is the red Goni. It was also about a golf ball at full extension when I got it, and now it’s probably a 5” ball. Super rewarding on those.
The bad:
Had 3 torches for about 3/4 months, a new head every 6 weeks or so. But then, one got BJD and within about a week they were all gone. Hammers have also been hit and miss, some have thrived (the gold one has grown like 5 more heads) and some have died within a month of introduction and I don’t think they were all aqua-cultured from a very good LFS. Also tried 2 Ricordia mushrooms that have both melted. Rhodactis has no problem though 🤷‍♂️

Anyways, what’re yall doing? Drop a comment!

I was using AFR to keep up with my tank's needs. Luckily, I had a 20g, so AFR wasn't expensive for me to use.

I have a quite new tank, 36 gallons. When I started testing a few months in I was okay with Ca, but weak dKH and Mg. I started by upping my Mg with Epsom salts (Randy's Recipe 1, Part 3). Once I got that where I wanted it, I was dosing Randy's Recipe 1, Part 2 because my pH was a bit low also. W/c took care of trace. Once the big three were in range I transitioned to AFR for the trace. Once dialed in, it has been holding everything pretty stable, except pH, which is back down to or below 8.0. I'm trying some aeration for pH, but it still needs tweaking.
Too soon to tell any effects on corals, but my Hammer has been flourishing throughout, and all my corals are doing fine thus far. Except for (of all things) my Yellow Polyp frag. I don't count that though b/c I believe it was mowed down by an urchin. The frag and plug are suspiciously clean. No sign of Yellow Polyps or algae.

I’ve been using AFR on my nano since I’ve started dosing. I’ve been very happy with it. I keep my alk around 7.5dKH and my calcium stays 410-430ppm. My magnesium runs between 1350 and 1400ppm according to 3 different ICP tests so far. I couldn’t be happier with AFR and plan on using it when I get my new tank up and running.
