This one was lavender purple with black dorsal fins in the store. No signs of green blue or pink.

I take it home and in QT it goes. Now it looks nothing like I purchased.

It was labeled as Scott's fairy wrasse Fiji.

Can someone confirm please? And tell me more about it?

Yeah, that's a male Cirrhilabrus scottorum. Unfortunately, in captivity they almost always lose their bright colors in captivity and can be aggressive to other fairy wrasses.

Thank you for the confirmation! I don't have any other fairy wrasses in the tank (I do have other wrasses, but not fairy. My fairy jumped to death during the night :( ).

I saw that fish in the store when I bought my trigger! and I was thinking what a pretty shade of purple she was! Crazy, how she looks completely different!

I'm curious on this species that was in my old tank.

It was sold to me as a Paracheilinus flasher wrasse, so I thought my subsequent wrasse additions would be safe. This fish pecked the eyeballs out of my C. solorensis that was in is cocoon, badgered a melanurus to death, and is suspected in the death of a yellow watchman goby before I dismantled the tank to catch him. I have pictures of him flashing if those would help.

Yes, Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis.

*EDIT* Actually it's a C. rubeus, but had been known as rubriventralis for many years, but only recently seperated as it's own species.

Are they known to be buttheads? I have never seen a fish pin another into a corner and peck them to death, despite my attempted interventions, like this one did. Surprising, as he and the solorensis are not in the same complex.
