Let Me ID Your Wrasse!

Top is listed as a Blue Sided Wrasse, was think maybe a solorensis but the colors are really muted and dull.

Carpenter?

Would like to know the 2 near the bottom with the dot on the tail as well the 3 towards the top right, all are listed as Assorted Fairy Wrasse.

In many cases all that is needed is to see how many dorsal filaments there are, the shape of the caudal fin, and the color and patterning of the anal fin. The pic you provided allowed for all of these.

There was a rounded caudal fin, so of the species available in the the trade are mccoskeri, carpenteri, flavianalis and rubricaudalis.

Of those species, rubricaudalis does not have blue spotting in the middle of the anal fin. Then mccoskeri and carpenteri have anal fins that are yellow/orange with a thick red margin. Flavianalis has a singularly yellow/orange anal fin.

The fish pictured is clearly flavianalis.

So the flavianalis is the second pic I'm guessing? The LFS is selling that one for $14 so I'll probably grab it. Any opinions on the 1st and 3rd pics?

Thanks. I am glad. Now I can get a McCosker's. They will go into a rather large tank so even if they are closely related, I think they will be fine. Flavianalis seem to be rarer, right?

$14 was for the smaller one, the 2nd pic. All others are $16-$25. I’m really curious about the 2 female/ juveniles towards the bottom of the 3rd pic as well as the “blue sided” in the first pic. Would like to buy all 3 just waiting for identification to know what I’m getting.

First pic is C. cyanopleura for sure.

The second pic is a flasher, but can't see the dorsal or anal fin for clear id.

The two on the bottom appear to be female C. cyanopleura, there are 2 flasjers, but can't see the exact species, and the other fairy wrasse is C. melanomarginatus.

So the flavianalis is the second pic I'm guessing? The LFS is selling that one for $14 so I'll probably grab it. Any opinions on the 1st and 3rd pics?

Sorry, I somehow missed your first post. Can't say for certain which flasher wrasse species it is without seeing the dorsal or anal fins.

which is the melanomarginatus wrasse? looking up the females it appears its the two towards the bottom of the 3rd pic. Either way I suppose buying the Cyanopleura, the solo flasher and one of the females from the 3rd pic should be ok for compatibility?

The melanomarginatus is the third one down in the last pic on the right. It has a white belly and black dorsal and anal fins.

Those females appear to be cyanopleura females, so I wouldn't get them with a male cyanopleura.

My LFS has a bunch of flashers and fairys listed as "mixed" and all are $17. I was able to take a few more photos.

This one I'm struggling to ID.

The 3rd pic I think I was able to identify Paracheilinus angulatus and Cirrhilabrus lubbocki.

I need a better pic for the first 2 photos, but looks like an immature filamentos/whipfin flasher, but can't tell for sure based on pics.

You're right on for the other two. P. angulatus and C. lubbocki.

I think you're right about filamentous. So if I get the blue side, the lubbock's, angular and the filamentous do you think there will be problems with aggression? It's a 93 gal cube DT btw.

Don't get the filamentosus. They are very aggressive to fairy and flasher wrasses.
