So minimalist tanks seem to kind of be in vogue at the moment. I attribute this to most reefers now knowing that you don't need a pound per gallon of live rock in your tank. However, there are some good reasons why some reefers still choose to use a lot of rock in their reef (things like hiding places for fish and coral real estate come to mind). I have seen some great tanks with lots of rock, and I'd love to see those get a good thread with lots of pics so...

Show us your tank with lots of rock! Tell us why you chose to go that route over less rock.

I am not a fan of minimal. I like rock for landscape, crevices, tunnels, hideaways etc. I think it looks more natural and the fish approve! Oh, and places for coral. Excuse the not so perfect tank. Reboot 2020 underway

Okay, I redid my middle section (and some work on the huge leather) by adding some more rock with the goal of raising that leather over time (It's barely on the rock so don't dare move it now. It's heavy)

Not sure which I prefer. Both have their places. Here is a picture from May 2019 of my 210 gallon tank that is still maturing. 150 lbs dry pukani. Trying to show how bare rock and amount looks....tank looks different now. Go figure. Anyway I merged my 40 breeder into it which was using some very old (going back to 2000) live Fiji rock. Don't remember how much I saved from my previous 100 gallon. In any case it is mixed and tucked away to help liven up the pukani.

Not sure if it counts but compared to some tanks I’ve seen it seems to be a lot. I just prefer the look.

Lots of rock and hiding space but fish can swim all the way around rock. Was nor my preference but was thrown together after a 300 mile move.

Here's my 75g I love the rock wall! I just stack em up and have never glued any rocks together. I have 3-4 inches in front and back so the fish have room to swim freely.
