thank you :)

I’ve had him about three months. My idol is a pig he eats everything I put in the tank from nori, mysis, LRS herbivore and regular LRS mix, blood worms, formula one, formula two, prime reef, angel blend Hikari. All frozen. He’s by far my favorite fish the amount of personality he has is amazing.
Wow, that's awesome! Good luck with him! I've heard that they don't last long without regular feeding of sponges, they die of constipation or something. Hopefully that doesn't hold true for you. Maybe the angel blend will cover that?

I turned the lights on around September last year, so this is 15 months in:

Mostly pretty happy, albeit dealing with my first bout of matting Cyano that rolled up last week…

Interesting where did you hear that from? If so I’ll find a way to supplement that into his diet.

Just research. Probably on here. I've thought many times about getting one but keep talking myself out of it.

If you’re purchasing one most important thing is the source to my knowledge. Mike at Dr Reef just got a new source from them and he told me that was a game changer. Sure enough my fish is doing absolutely amazing.

They get sponge from my angel diet food. I think they just need consistent food. My guy is always grazing or eating nori and first to eat when I drop food in. I feed heavy at least 3-4 times a day.

My strategy is heavy nutrients in and heavy nutrients out.

Here's an article on the subject. Again, good luck with your fish! The moorish idol is truly a holy grail fish, and if you successfully are able to keep one, you are in a rare class.

Thanks, again I have explored these fish in depth with Mike from Dr reef. The source the fish are collected from is incredibly important. After is feeding them very frequently. Mine is fat, has overcome disease, and has tons of personality. He comes up to me whenever I put my hands in the tank and follows me around.

Opening up the arch on the right made such a difference in your scape! I would have loved to have seen the look with some frags on the "limestone" insert adding depth and contour matching the scape. I do appreciate the more simple look with the latter insert though, it really makes it all about the reef

I bought a used up and running tank without livestock. I was able to move the tank without disturbing the sand bed. The GSP on the back wall came with the tank. The live rock is from a LFS that cultures their own live rock.

These corals were hitchhikers.

The first was hydrologic cement and it started to crumble. That's why it had to come out

It’s a small 10 gallon diy but I think it filled out pretty good ! Nov 26 2023
Great growth in your tank in a little over a year!

Nice! What time frame was that? What is the huge colony in the middle?
The first pic is just after the install in October 2019. The second pic is 2021 and the third is 2022.

The colony is a huge colony of this (I'm horrible at names!):

Home of the eight chromis! Though I recently had to remove 90% of it because it was way too big, hitting the surface and shadowing everything under it. When I trimmed it it was about twice the size it was in this pic.
