This is an AWESOME idea!!! Post away folks. It would also be nice to mention what you like/dislike about each store listed.

Los Angeles (and Southern California)

You would think there would be a TON of premier LFS in the Los Angeles area, but there is not. Perhaps the high rents push LFS to the outer reaches of the area. There seems to be a concentration of interesting LFS the more you drive south into Orange County. I do not get down there too often with my family schedule, but these stores are among the area's must sees.

Ali (owner) is a great guy. Small store but all corals. Leather sofas and modern displays. Expensive, quality corals. Limited inventory. Soon to come prop tanks. High end (also limited) dry goods.

Haven't been yet but the web site has an impressive array of high end gear.

Canoga Park, CA 91303

This is my mainstay LFS in the San Fernando valley. Big, brightly lit store with impressive surge prop tanks and large 800g grow-out display. Expensive. Tons of quality hand-picked corals. Deals to be had when the owner is around. Decent fish and invert selection too. Limited drygoods. Perhaps the most organized website around.

Small, garage sized store with two(?) big prop tanks. Inexpensive corals, and owner has a reputation as being a great guy. I was not impressed on my first visit, but I will give them a second chance sometime soon. No inverts/fish/drygoods.

i know there used to be a website with a map and reefers used to put stores on there but i dont know what ever happened to it
it was very elaborate too, it was like a map and you could pick the state and city and lfs that people typed in popped up on a street map
having 1 thread is great but cumbersome to look through everything unless this becomes a sticky or something and rev makes this alphabetical or something like that
maybe an a-z with all the states

This is the LFS I go to the most. Cheap water (RO/DI, filtered seawater available), fair prices on corals and fish. Some are too high, but if you talk to some of the older employees or the owner (Robin) they usually can work something out. The owner does not like negociating though, but pick out a coral thats receeded a bit or isnt looking too hot and theyll lower it a bit. Recently picked up a colony of PEs from there for 20 dollars, and they had no idea what they were missing. Often underemployed when Im in there.

This is the BEST LFS around. Carrys a great selection of ORA corals. Large selection of healthy colonies (from huge toadstools to ricordea rocks to small frags). Good choices on fish as well, large holding tanks and everything looks great. Always someone able to help you when you need it, and they give honest answers.

A while back I wanted to sell some of my corals and he said they really couldnt give me much, but recommended I try selling locally on saltwaterfish.com or RC. Very cool guys. Will take coral orders as well!

That site is cool! thanks, but i still think we should all list ours with our opions, that we know whats good about each store! Is there any way we can get this to be a sticky?

the reefe shoppe(Rochester) is overpriced IMO as well

+1 unless your trading if you bring stuff to trade in they give you way more back but he did have a scolly for 512 dollars?!?!? what!:spiderman:

meh he gave me ten bucks for the coral banded i paid 34 from him guess it depends he does always have some crazy stuff in though

yea well i think he knew dan so dan got a sick deal he gave dan a 64 dollar coral and said just trade me something next time thats not including the yellow tang and about 4 other corals he got back

i hear ya same with me LOL but thats why when i go to trade stuff now im bringing dan LOL

This thread will be cool, but don't forget to add your stores AND reviews to the zoyzoy site. The more contributions the more useful it will be for all.

Westside Aquarium and Pets

--Paul one of owners is nice. But selection is very limited. He really only carries Florida waters stuff. Has lots of sponges and gorgonias. Not much on corals really though.

Aqua Star Aquarium Center
873 Bloomingdale Ave. West
Brandon, FL 33511
(813)689-0713

--Small store, but nice staff. Usually have a variety of fish available and small selection of corals.

Fish and other ichthy stuff
105 Fairfield St
Oldsmar, FL 34677
(813) 891-4291

--Nice store. Decent selection of fish. Large selection of corals though. Everything looks nice in their tanks. However, I do think they seem a little pricey. Also if you are new to the game and have questions they arent the place to go. If you ask a question they act like you are bothering them. What a shame!

Aquarium Creations
424 W Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL
(813) 643-6149

--Decent size store. Small selection of everything. Health of fish questionable. Sometimes do have small frags of nice zoos.

Couldn't be further from the truth. I have visited pretty much all the LFS's in the Pinellas Pasco Tampa Bay area and cannot find a better place to get answers and honest info then Fish and other ichthy stuff...
I know this post is old but just did not want people to not go to probably one of the best priced and most knowledgeable LFS due to the poster either catching them on a bad day or maybe having a wrong perception...

If your looking for advice in this area go see Shawn at the coral corral. He's a good friend and can answer any questions you have.
