Hi guys. I noticed these light abrasions on my powder blues skin. Will this heal on its own or do I need to take some corrective action?

I can see some cloudiness/spots on the fish's eyes also. This could be Neobenedenia flukes.

How long have you had this fish?
Have you seen it flash or scratch?

If it is flukes, will this be treatable ): I really don’t want to lose this fish. He’s been doing really well with tank mates

The best treatment for Neobenedenia is hyposalinity (1.012) for 30 days. Of course, you can't do that if there are invertebrates present. The next best option would be three praziquantel treatments, 8 days apart. This sometimes does not fully stop the infection though.

So are you recommending to put him in a QT tank and just have salinity at 1.012 for 30 days? That’s it? Sounds easy! Lol what’s the success rate usually?

The trouble is, if you have other fish in the tank, they've been potentially expose to it as well.

The hyposalinity treatment has always worked for me with Neobenedenia, while prazi treatments are about 50:50 (but they do buy some time).

Dangggg so it’s possible I can have a whole tank wipe out? The powder blue has been with me for 2 days now

I’m going to get him in a QT today and run 1.012 for 30 days as suggested. As far as the other fish should I monitor them for 2 weeks and see how they turn out?

Also would it be beneficial to do the 30 days hyposalinity then maybe a treatment of prazi afterwards just to be sure I killed off any remaining parasite?

You can do that, but it shouldn't be necessary....

Could I treat the prazi in my display and not upset any of my live stock?

Yes, it is reef safe. You just need to ensure the display is well aerated.

Hi how sure are you that it is flukes? I just got home from work and his right side looks to be a lot better today almost gone. Skin looking great. Very active and eating well. I’m just worried to cause un needed stress if I pull him out the tank and treat him. His eyes look a lot more clear today as well

I actually was discounting the marks on the body as a scrape - I was focused more on the cloudy eyes as possibly being a sign of flukes.

Ahhh okay. What did you think of the pics I took today? The eyes look to be clearing up on their own? Or maybe I’m being too optimistic lol
