Re: Coral spawning and light. Onset of darkness is the biological clock for coral spawnings, in many cases. Some corals reproduce at random (the brooding Pocillopora damicornis, for example.)
This applies to Rock Flower Anemones as well. There is very little real world info available about RFA and their reproduction behavior. It seems that they spawn in the early evening (common info from anecdotal info here on R2R and my aquarium). The trickier question is how long the germination period is, i.e. the male spawns, how long after that before the female delivers babies? Anecdotal evidence from here at R2R is all over the map. I've had several rounds of reproduction now and it seems that 30 to 35 days in about right... maybe give or take a couple days at either end of that range to be conservative.
