I’m going to be going on vacation next month and we’ll be gone for about seven days. I realize I can get a timer that will go on and off, but I have a Fluval flex all in one tank and after the lighting is turned off, you have to press a button on the remote to turn on the lights. So a timer really wouldn’t turn my lights back on. Will seven days in the dark be too long? What kind of problems could that cause?

If it’s fish only, I don’t see a problem if there is some ambient lighting in the room. If you have corals, I’d try to figure out a way to turn the lights on.

Honestly, I can’t imagine having to turn the lights on and off on my tank.

I have several coral. Gonipora, bubble tip anemon, Duncan, Xenia, and a paly. Would this kill the coral?

I believe you just use the Fluvalsmart app to schedule the lights turning on and off automatically. I kept one for a while as a freshwater planted tank and never manually turned anything off or on. Also, yeah, I wouldn't keep any coral in the dark for 7 days.

I'd rather keep my lights on low intensity for 7 days instead of off.

Either way if there is no way to put your lights on a timer or app to go on and off automatically...that is a serious flaw in your setup.

Look into NICREW as they have a controller that might work with Flex.

You'd think Fluval would also provide an option. Have you called them to ask. The internet isn't always the best and first option. Thinking Fluval has likely gotten inquiries on this before or at a minimum likely considered it.

surely there has to be way to connect the light to a wifi timer? These tanks are pretty popular, people must have figured out a fix for this because I don't see this question posted here often, if ever.

I've never had an evo 13.5, but I just watched 2 youtube videos showing folks setting up the light with a timer...

Your light has its own plug right? You turn the light on with the remote and leave it on, and put the remote in a drawer. Now plug the wifi plug into the wall, and plug the light into the wifi. It should work

This is a really smart idea to keep your lights on a timer if you can't do it through an app or anything!

Yeah. The problem isn’t that I can’t get it to automatically power off and on it’s that when it powers back on it goes to the alternating colored lights and I can’t change it to regular lighting without the remote.
