I was at my LFS a few days ago and saw a beautiful tank. It had Deep Blue lighting. It was super clean . and the coral were beautiful. I asked about it and was told as I should have known . Algae growth was nothing , And was told coral are used to fighting blue light ( deep depth ), and Par was achievable. Comments please especially sps levels. I assume 150 easily done. ???? I already know light penetration for photography ends about 40 feet. I did not go deeper as it was usually a drop off to over 100 feet

Well I suppose I would like to know for the future. All I need now is about 130 or so but currently using white light too lazy to go through it all again with the Apogee unless I hear there is a great advantage. I hear it all the time people being asked to take photos in white light for problems they have so is the light to blame? Or are these problems unrelated

Algae hides really well under blue light. Most blue light specials are super green when they finally show you “under the hood”

Advantage ? It’s more of personal preference. Some people like the heavy blue look because it makes certain corals colors have brighter fluorescence.

It doesn’t do much to illuminate fish colors.

That is so we can see the corals tissue and tank better. If all we see are the glowing parts of coral, we could miss damaged sections that appear dark under blues only

turn up the blue channels on current lights. If that doesn’t work then either

Stronger lights
Or more lights

I think my corals are getting about 700-800 par with the entire tank using about 600 watts.

Of that, only about 35 watts are from the white channels.

I turned on my blue channel only. Not light blue or violet or anything else. Just the deep blue channel alone

These values are equal to apogee 500 meter. For apogee 510 multiply by 1.2
