Live-Phyto Dosing - Most Efficient Technique

Hello! I've been dosing live-phyto pretty much from week 3 (full cycle and then some...). I dose daily, and just learned that I am not dosing enough, which is fine and I can correct.

My question is what is the most advantageous way for dosing live-phyto? Talking with my LFS, he recommended dosing at night, when the pods come out and play. I wanted to reach out and see what others are doing, and what success everyone has.

• Size of Tank
• Amount you are dosing
• How you are dosing (manual vs. dosing pump)
• Time of day you are dosing.

So you're doing (1)ml per gallon?

My understanding, is that phyto should be added in the AM, as the more light, the better. It needs light, no? SPS may be a different matter but LPS, softies, etc feed in the day

No, it doesn't need light. I'm mainly using it right now to feed my micro-fauna. I don't necessarily think there's a best/better time to dose. I could be wrong

I have read a few articles that advise feeding during the day.
"The longer the phytoplankton has under your lights the better. It needs the light for photosynthesis. During this process is where the nutrients (phosphates, nitrates, heavy metals, etc.) are used up and help to produce the vitamins, pigments, fats, aminos, acids, lipids, etc that corals love!

If you are dosing for coral food, then it’s best to dose when your corals are in feed mode. SPS dominant likely a lights off feed is better typically as they have better polyp extension at night. Most other corals would benefit from a dose during lights on periods as that’s when they are typically open and ready to opportunistically feed."
