I obtained this (used) Live Rock from a friend (I don’t even need it, but it was free!) I’ve had it for awhile, but decided to just buy new rock for my first setup. Today I went to actually look at the rock and for the first time noticed this attached to the rock.

A couple things I hope to come out from this thread post is:
1.) What is it? (mushroom?)
2.) Is it dead dead to the max or worth saving?
3.) Should I pluck it off and submerge it?

Looking at the rock as it sits now, I’m almost intrigued to see what else lies within the rock. There seems to be so much life on this rock it’s almost sad to think there’s nothing left on/in it. What do you all think? Would that be a bad idea (put some in my aquarium). Is there any life left or is it shot?

- What would you do with a free piece of rock giving to you? Use it in another separate tank?
TIA!

Thats interesting. I personally dont know what it is but there's always a ton of stuff that comes back to life on those rocks. You could put it in a seperate tank and let it cycle then see what comes out. =)

That’s pretty much what I did. I just dropped it into my premixed saltwater container with a heater and powerhead. It is what it is.

Not sure but be careful. Had a muscle on one once and it almost took my finger tip off lol...
