I am an older reefer and back in the day there was a website GARF.org that, to me, was one of the original clean up crew and frag sites. They were really innovative. The original founder passed away and things lingered for a while but it seemed to shut down after a while.

I am currently upsizing my aquarium and thought I would try some 'live sand'. I was going back to the day when I would but GARF Grunge and remembering how well that worked. Anyway, I looked on the back and there seems to be a connection. Is this true? Does GARF still exist in some format? If so I would love to continue to support them.

Geothermal hmmm, interesting. We are certainly old timers that's for sure. Garf used to be a great resource. The site doesn't look active anymore.

Their website was always a train wreck, wasn’t it? But they were sort or cutting edge looking back.

Just interesting that the current bags of sand still allude to them. I can’t find the connection. ‍♂️

I remember reading through their website. Poorly organized, but lots of interesting articles and photos that leaned towards a more alternative, DIY approach. They liked cheap fluorescent lighting and live sand/mud. I also remember reading Dr. Ron Shimek's articles on deep sand beds, and all of the life necessary to keep them functioning properly. I always wanted to order some "GARF grunge" and have a DSB teeming with life, but never got around to it. Now I'm in the opposite camp with a bare bottom tank.:grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I went to a website that said Garf.org. While it was a reef vendors, it was not the same.

Try Tampa Bay Saltwater or Gulf Live Rock. They both collect live sand & live rock.

I thought there was a specific live rock that you use and recommend, and I didn’t think it was Gulf rock. Am I mistaken here? Thanks!

I played with a retirement business of mariculturing Texas “ holy rock” in 10KG system in a greenhouse. I used Gulf Live Rock.

I bought a bag o bugs from them years ago. Came as a ball of cheato loaded with worms, mini brittle stars, pods and who knows what else. Really helped jump start a new tank.

Unfortunately Leroy from garf passed away several years ago. I use to supply him with the GARF Grunge. I now offer it on my own website Gulfliverock.com and sell it as GLR Grunge. Thanks Dan
