How many of you have a Non Reef safe fish in your reef and what has been your experience?

I’ve have had this yellow longnose butterfly for over one year now. Did pick on a scoly but has left my acros and softies alone.

I have a few: midnight and coral beauty dwarf angelfish and an emperor angelfish. The midnight eats acans, the coral beauty hasn't touched anything and the emperor seems (I think) to have picked off the nuisance zoas and palys that I don't really care for.

Had a moorish idol until he destroyed an acropora lol, was totally fine then one day decided pretty things taste good. I think as long as you're paying close attention to non-reef safe fish if they turn on your coral its pretty obvious and you usually have time to remove them or accept their new expensive snacks.

Coral beauty has been a long term tenant in good standing. Flame angel ate the acan garden..

Most of the time I test the"with caution" moniker, I end up on the "ate yo coral" side of it.
Love the coral beauty! Tough to get a good picture because they are always in motion.

Living on the edge....have a passer, LemonPeel, Flame, and mult color in full blown reef. Passer eats fleshy brain coral. Elegance, Acans.....sold them before they were totally destroyed......

I don’t have any non reef safe fish currently. If I were to have one I’d choose a flame angelfish. They look so beautiful with that bright red,

But I love my clams and corals much more than any singular fish, so no risking for my current tank!

If you consider pyramid butterflies reef safe with caution, I have a trio. But they really only eat aiptasia and xenia: I don’t like aiptasia and I don’t keep xenia. :)

Generally if you can find the one coral they will pick at . You can stock others without any issues .

LOL! No real secret.....I just took the risk, watched them, and removed coral they liked to munch on. I feed good too, but not excessive, along with seaweed twice a day. IMO if they want to eat your corals amount you feed makes little difference though.

I plan on doing this with my 180 gallon we are setting up. We have a koran angel and a cream angel, and a broomtail wrasse, and plan on adding some dwarf angels, some other larger wrasses, a niger trigger, and a rectangle trigger. Maybe a blue spotted toby and a threadfin snapper as well.
