Curious to see what people think about buying local calcium chloride (deicer) or getting it from BRS for making 2 part dosing. It is about 10x the cost on BRS. Any advice? I saw Randy posts about Dowflake but idk if I’ll be able to find that exact brand. Any insight is interesting :)

Does the local stuff have any type of quality analysis? It might be just fine. It might contain stuff you don’t want. They won’t care about any kind of contamination since it’s not food grade.

So, it might be totally fine and safe. It might not. Check to see if they have any purity claims

I use Dowflake (forgot where I bought it). I have heard of reefers also using Prestone Driveway Heat available through Walmart. It only has minor amounts of sodium and potassium chloride (2-3%). I think the Safe Step 7300 product is also likely fine (available through Ace). In general, I think any Calcium Chloride based Deicer that is not a "Blend" or enhanced is likely fine. Also make sure you are not buying Mag Chloride based deicer.
