So I locked myself out. Locksmith cost $75. Don't feel like paying 5 1/2 hours of work for someone to pick a lock. My friend wanted to give it a go for free with his set. Two hours later.. Next step hammer and a pin to remove the hindge from the door...

We never intentionally leave windows open/unlocked.

My husband locked himself out of our house. Locksmith gets the door opened. My husband and the locksmith walk inside a dark house and are greeted by a "Hello". Locksmith gets a surprised/frightened look on his face until my husband explains it is our African Grey parrot [emoji23]

4 other people, relatives of course :-), have keys to my house, so that would never happen to me; Besides the fact that I can't lock myself out of the house. I did forget and leave the keys on the lock over night before. Car maybe possible to be locked out, but I learned years ago to put the keys in the pocket if I ever get off the driver seat......
And when I had to make copies of my keys/cylinders, I made sure the lock smith not know where I live and cash was the only method of payment :-)

I'm glad you were able to get back in. That is a very frustrating and helpless feeling.

We have switched over to digital keypads so no more keys and no more getting locked out.

Nice.. I know my dad said he locked himself out of his truck when he was younger. He broke the back glass in the back to get to work on time.

My coworker was saying her friend, who is an officer, would leave his car running and lock the door then had a spare key on his belt to get in.

I either heard of that on YouTube or some show. Kinda of wanted to try it. I bet it is still cheaper than a locksmith. ;p

Keypad locks cure this. Internet enabled ones are even better. But at least hide a spare key in your garage and get a keypad remote for it.

Sure, as long as you have a clue about what you are doing.
To do this you have to have tools and a bit of experience. Not that it is hard to do but you can make some mistakes which may cause you to have to replace your lockset which may cost you$25-$700 depending upon what lock you have on your door.
My advice.......find another way in or pay a Locksmith.
Bypassing a lock means many things, usually if you use your head you can figure another way in. If you think you are going to watch youtube and use a paperclip to pick open the lock you are most likely sorely mistaken.
