I have a montipora that has grown up the front glass of my tank, see pic, anyone have a tip or trick on how to remove it without just chopping away

Once the calcium attaches to the glass it is there. Until you chop it. Best to do it soon before it climbs higher. :)

My montis just pop right off the glass with a little force

I have one that grows across the back glass, very similiar to the red you have there. My flipper magnet cleaner can scrape it off. It's actually quite thin on the glass, no where near as thick as a plate. Least in my case.

IF YOU HAD TO OPERATE EVERYTHING ELSE MANUALLY, WHICH AUTOMATED SYSTEM WOULD YOU KEEP?
