My current return pump is a eheim 1260 which I have cut off to about 50%. It has a loud vibration noise. I have tried the silicone mat under it to help alittle but still is loud. I have ran it at 100% with no change in noise. So I am looking to replace it. Im looking at the syncra silent 1.5 pump 357gph right now. Some very good reviews saying how quite it is. Anyone have any thoughts on this pump? It will be for a 29 gallon with a hob overflow and 10 gallon sump

My jebao dc pump is pretty much dead silent.
I have heard good things about that pump as well. Right now I am stuck trying to figure out what size as well. Not to sure on caculating my head loss. I want to try and get a smaller sized pump to fit better in my sump. Right now the eheim is barely squeezed in. Here's a pic of my plumbing if anyone can make a educated guess on head pressure loss. 1 inch plumbing too

I'm currently using a Sicce 1.5 on my Nuvo 20. Only noise I hear is water trickling down. Been running it for eight month with monthly cleaning.
Do you run it wide open? I'm just trying to figure out if the 6 ft of max head pressure will be ok. I have 5 elbows on the return

I dont push a ton of water through it. Thats what my gyre and MP10 are for. I am probably only running about 200gph from the return into the display. no need for crazy water flow cause I want that water to move slowly in the sump so it can sit with the skimmer and pull out junk and for the carbon to absorb it.
I am running the Jebao DCA 1500

also is that 1" plumbing for the return?
if so why so big. I am only running 5/8"
I have found if you use to large of a pipe the pump doesnt seem to work as well and will cause some sounds and vibrations
Remove the valve off the pump. That shouldnt be limited. Put a ball valve on the drain and adjust there to make it silent for a siphon overflow

+1 for the Sicce. I actually think the Rio pumps aren’t too bad either, I have run one for my chiller going on 6 years, it actually outlasted my Sicce Syncra 5 (return pump , cracked impeller )

I have the Syncra 2.o. Its pretty quiet but not silent, there is a slight hum. The fluval SP series is suppose to be a more quiet AC pump

DC pumps will be the most quiet, but are not as reliable as AC pumps in general

I run wide open with noise. I double checked Sicce site and the 1.5 barely clears 6 ft head. Might end up 260-280 wide open with the elbows. I was looking at your pics and noticed how close your pump is to the glass. The glass might be amplifying the noise on your pump. Just a thought.

Yes I is very close. I made a mistake measuring when I made the sump so it fits in with about a quarter inch on each side

Yea its 1 inch all around. The overflow was 1 inch so I figured I would do the return the same. Do you really think bigger PVC would cause this?

So I shouldn't run a ball valve on the return? I put it there cause my overflow is only rated for 300. When I run it wide open I get a lot of bubbles in my sump that's why I turn it down

Thought it was bad to restrict the overflow?

Took the pump partially apart and cleaned it. Didn't see anything broken or damaged. Put everything back together and still the same humming noise. I might go ahead and replace the return plumbing with 3/4 inch to see if that helps. The silicone map under it definitely cuts it in half. And if that doesn't work I might just have to get a smaller pump so it fits alittle better
