I am looking to get a maxima clam for my 70g frag tank. I am looking for the best clam holder.

What does everyone use?

I just put them on the sand, or an oyster shell
You really don’t need a clam holder. It is best to leave the clam along and not move him much.
I dont plan on moving them, but I like the Idea of having them on a spot that could be moved instead of my bare bottom frag tank. I want it up on the rocks for higher par.

how much light do you have and how deep is your tank?

I like to keep it on the sand so I can see it better. You can put the clam on anything. Healthy one just attach right away so indentation is not really needed. Should be significantly bigger than the clam so it is stable. a really small holder is just useless because it won't keep the clam stable

I agree with @OrionN clam holder isn't necessary. Pick a secure place in the rock to place the clam in and let it attach. XR15's are not that strong of lights, especially in a 19" deep tank, so you're better off in the upper part of the tank. If you've never kept clams before, I'm not sure I would start with a maxima, they're not the easiest clam to start with.

Its xr15’s with 4 t5’s. I can bump up the par as well as its just a frag tank for sps.

Its plumbed into my 180g reef and sump so it’s got tons of volume. Only fish in there is a pink streak.

Maximas are my favorite looking. Whats the par I should shoot for?

I put mine on half clam shell.
They attach very quickly.
Then I glue the half shell down, but can move the clam if I need to.
I don’t want to remove the bysall thread.

This is also dependent on the species of clam you are intending on getting.
some prefer a sand substrate, while some prefer a rocky, solid substrate.

Both my clams are on rocks I had laying around. These rocks are actually soft as far as rocks go, I took it outdoors with a hammer and chisel and shaped it the way I want, it takes 2 minutes.

I would target around 300 micro moles and see how it grows. Just monitor the new shell growth.
