Well, when things go wrong, they sometimes go wrong quickly. This torch was a small 2 or 3 head frag I put in my system last November. Since then it has been the most robust of my euphyllia. It had grown several new heads, and become a nice showy piece. This is what it looked like on Saturday:

This morning I came in to find three of the heads fully retracted and covered in a light tan colored slime. By noon it had progresses to cover all but the last two heads.

I'm assuming this is BJD? If so, it is my first brush with it. I pulled the coral out this afternoon, but do I need to worry about the other euphyllia I have in the system? There are two hammers and a frog spawn in the same tank.

Looks like it.

As far as I know, it's not contagious to healthy corals. They are just how euphyllia succumb to bacterial infection which is prevalent in our tanks.

There is no telling that what might have brought them down to BJD will not affect other torches as well so it is worth looking at what might have went wrong (if any)

I just had a octospawn and its neighbor succum to BJD but managed to save about half of the heads, trying to see what might have been wrong.

It can and will effect other corals in the tank. Though typically there is some sort of stress event that usually causes it. I had great luck with an in tank cipro treatment. Flesh bands and most corals in general look a lot better now after the treatment. I have not tested nitrates in a while and they are down by about 10 ppm from normal so its possible that the cipro affected my bacterial filter and the corals are enjoying the increased available ammonia though that tests at or near 0.
