Hey guys and gals, finally got enough water made to get my new-to-me 90G with 20G sump running. All is working well, except my corner overflow is CRAZY LOUD gurgling and the drain line "burps" like every 5 or 10 seconds.

The setup- 1" drain line. From the bulkhead, I've just got flexible hose going straight into the first chamber of my sump. At first, it was basically going straight down. I found if I moved my sump over just a hair to make the drain line enter at a slight angle, the burping calmed down quite a bit, but still a loud gurgle. Drain line is just barely under water line in the sump.

Return pump is a controlled Jebao DCT-6000. It too is just hooked up to flexible hose(3/4") going to a 3/4" bulkhead. I did it this way thinking I didn't need a valve here since I could control flow with the provided controller. Maybe that was a mistake. It gurgles like mad regardless of whether it's turned all the way down or all the way up.

Surely it can't be too much flow, can it? I think on low, it's around 550 gph (according to online specs). I can crank it all the way up (1,585 gph) and the overflow keeps up without issue, it's just loud regardless.

Any help/ suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Post up some pictures if you can. Should make it easier to help out.
Absolutely. Here's a shot from the side of the corner overflow. As you can see, the water doesn't sit at all in here; it's flowing down as quick as it comes in. It's just going thru the open bulkhead.

Here's the bottom of the display tank/ overflow. The drain line isn't "crimped" near as much as this pic makes it look like...

The controller at the top with the green lights is for the powerheads. The second one down with the single blue light is the return pump.

Shot of the entire cabinet/ sump, just so you can see what's what.

Let me know if any other pics would help. Hoping to quiet this thing down a bit, for my marriage's sake!

Look up what a durso drain is. Basically
It will allow water to build up in the overflow box and drain smoothly into the sump. They are easily made with just a few pvc fittings and pipe.

Here's a picture of a durso

And some info:

After one quick Google search, let me guess... that's what this is???

And I think with your pictures you just posted, you answered my next question. Does the "screened" down-pointing part stay in the overflow area too, or does it hang back on the over flow and stick into the tank side?

Cleaning this thing up now....

I had no clue what this thing did. I just thought it was a part of the guys' setup I didn't need since I'm sure I plumbed the tank differently.

The whole thing goes in the overflow box. Water level in the box can be adjusted by sliding the top portion up or down

The hole on the side of the PVC is a syphon stop. But yes as others have said it needs to go into the down pipe.
Are you getting filter socks for the drain

Has anyone used any noise cancelling things on the interior cabinet walls? We realize this thing isn't going to be silent or anything, but if there are some easy ways to cut down on noise, I'm all for it.

Sorry I can't help with the noise, but is your sump large enough to collect the drainage from your DT if your power goes out? It seems pretty full already, may be just the photograph.

Good luck on fixing the noise.

My 90 is virtually silent. What type of noise do you have coming from the sump? Water gurgle or mechanical ?

Yep, it is with probably 3" to spare in the last chamber. I've simulated power outages 3 times now to make sure. My return line is right at water line in the display, so I don't get much of a siphon effect.

Awesome, glad to hear it. :D Hope you can get your drain to be more quiet.

Water gurgle, although it's not really gurgling, just "running". It's about the same amount of noise and sounds almost exactly the same as the dishwasher running (I actually thought it was the dishwasher after installing the durso drain).

I have a jaebo D.C. Pump and it is very quiet. I have found that if I have more than a 1inch waterfall from chamber to chamber I get more gurgling/splashing noise. It looks like you have a pretty decent waterfall after your third baffle. Is that where you are hearing the water noise?

No, not really. I think it's mainly the drain pipe in the first chamber. I'll get some filter socks ordered and see what that does. Most filter socks the same, I'm assuming?
