When we moved to the coast when I was young, I decided that I wanted to become a marine biologist. I volunteered at the local aquarium for years, and ultimately did, in fact, get my degree in marine bio. During my last year in the program in college, the seniors were in charge of keeping the lab tanks. And thus, the bug bit.

I’ve just always had fish tanks! Only freshwater growing up, but always been infatuated with saltwater. Finally got a fluval evo 12.5 in 2019 and upgraded a year later to a 150 when I got a house.

My dad used to keep salt water tanks when I was young and some of my fondest memories are going to buy items for his tank and then sitting and watching the peacefulness of the tank. As an adult I started with some glow fish for the kids. That led to a bigger tank, which led to 26 more freshwater tanks, which finally led me to my original passion of salt water. Now I have 4 salt water/reef tanks and saving for another. I find it so relaxing to watch this beauty that I can create in my own home. It is peaceful and because it brings back the memories of childhood, I am just in love.

My high school science teacher got me into the hobby teaching us about the ocean and how important it is. Ever since then I wanted to be marine biologist and I am in school to be one today! Thanks Miss Swinford!

I got into the Hobby back in the late 70s! I got really sick as a young kid and could not really play outside. So my Dad had FW fish but I always wanted saltwater! Well somehow, they managed to scrape enough funds to get me into saltwater fish and I've been hooked ever since! I've seen everything in this hobby and if I could offer up advice it would be to take your time, LEARN, ask questions and know that anything good or bad can happen. Keep up with your tank and enjoy it. That's the secret sauce. Have fun and enjoy.
