My dad was in the hobby the majority of my childhood. I picked it up in college and when I moved he "volunteered" to take over my little 30g. He quickly upgraded and then decided to return the favor.
I got into the hobby back in 1988. I previously kept fresh water for 20+ years before that and was looking for something a little more challenging at that time, the hobby keeps going and going.
What a coincidence! My husband helped raise axolotls in college!

We got my oldest kid a tank (knowing he couldn't fully take care of it on his own), and it turned out I loved it.
I had a close friend that I served with who had 3 reef tank setups. I would always be captivated by his tanks for hours on end when we would go over for BBQ's. When I retired from the Army back in 2016 I wanted to set one up, to have something to tinker with to keep me busy. We started our first tank last November and wow has it been a ride. Went to a few regional shows and even got to see Reefapalooza this year.
I use to be into freshwater fish for the last couple of years. But about 9 months ago, I was on YouTube and I came across the Waterbox channel on YouTube. And I started to watch it. And I started to watch more and more threw out the weeks. Then I came across an video of Ann and Alex on there talking about how to frag corals. And I watched one where you did a tour of the shop. Then a week later, I went into the shop to find out more on how to get started into the saltwater hobby. I ended up talking to JT. He helped out alot. And eventually about 2 months later, I decided to switch over from freshwater to saltwater. And never looked back! I've been very happy about being in the hobby ever since.
Everytime I went to not so lfs, my little one kept begging for us to get "nemo" and "dory". We have had freshwater fish for a while so one day I seen I good deal on market for a tank and stand. And that was the beginning of it. Lol
