Photo of algae from my sump. Backstory - chaeto didn't grow well. This popped up in DT few strands and began to spread slowly. I moved the rock with this on it to sump since it was obviously happy with my parameters. It has grown consistently however, nitrates remain high.

Added ulva from Reefcleaners.org and was reading up on best care - reviewing the current macro and nuisance info on the site -- nothing quite matched this. So, what is it and what should I do with it?

Almost looks like a Acetabularia sp. but i dont see one that looks identical. All the ones ive found have single shoots for each cup.

@Gareth elliott thanks - that certainly gives me a starting point. I agree, those look similar but not exact...more reading to do!

So - a bit more research doesn’t give me a specific ID but it the general characteristics are similar to acetabularia sp. The general information I have found is that it’s not really a good refugium macro as it’s growth is slow and not really heavy nutrient uptake.

I am hoping the ulva our competes and gets hold -

Anyone else have ideas or thoughts on this one?

This is definitely caulerpa racemosa.

A good Chaeto alternative but maybe go sexual
