Compare the plasma grow to the natural sunlight graph in the middle.

Tank looks awesome!! A purple gigantea would look really nice in there lol. I have a par meter if you ever want to borrow it.

I can go for something like this Plasma light. The spectrum is nice. I always like light in the 6500-10,000 K range. With this light, we got back to the low light efficiency, in comparison to LED and the heat production. My next fish room will have plumbing to help with heat and moisture reduction.

Size is not a problem. You can grow them from 1 -2 inches to whatever size you want in a year time or less. Relatively healthy and color is the problem with Gigantea.

This was a joke OrionN. Dewy has a giant, decade old, beautiful purple gigantea that I pester him about selling to me all the time.
He's local too, but not ready to let it go. He is gracious enough to send me nice videos of it when I ask.

This plasma fixture at 270 watts puts out about the same heat as a 200 watt LED bay light. The heat sink does get hot, but not as hot as a metal halide ballast.

Not really.
Let's compare say a 200 W heater, 200W Halogen filament light and 200W LED light. You can clearly see the more heat put out the less light it produces. The heat output takes away from the energy go into light output.

However, very nice tank. We cannot argue about the excellent result.

I'm judging this by the amount of radiant heat I feel on my hand directly under the plasma fixture and under the 200 watt LED fixture. Very subjective, but I don't think it's adding much heat to the tank or the room it's in.
 
Is it dimmable? Ie can it do a sunrise and sunset?
With the Gavita master controller, it is dimmable. This not only dims wattage/brightness but also creates a different spectrum as well. The less wattage, the more blue the spectrum.

Thank you! A buddy of mine, Salem from ReefBuilders, and I had a conversation about plasma technology a couple of months ago and I started researching it extensively and tracked it down. It literally checked all of my lighting boxes, long lasting, sunlight spectrum, enough wattage, great shimmer, and now that it's been discontinued, very cheap.

IMO, we have to consider heat produce from everywhere. Ballast and bulb. Heat plus light equal to 200W in my example. More heat than less light.
