Major difference in mangrove growth.

When I read your scenario, I don’t deduce blue light as a culprit.
The lack of yellow, orange and red light was the downfall of that leaf.

Yes I agree, however I also think it is possible that the blue light may burn the leave and cause harm. Here is an example of the mangrove trunk. The area exposed to blue light bleaches white, the area that receives very little light but no blue stays green. Imo, blue light does harm beyond just not providing energy in a spectrum that the plant utilizes.

Thanks @CHSUB and @Subsea. This is all so interesting. I think I may look on Amazon for a cheap grow light that I can hang over the mangrove. I like the one you CHSUB referenced. We don't have prime but I am willing to pay more if I don't see another light that I like.

I can see why you like the heavy blue with all the bio-flourescent quality! I have the same scroll coral as you, BTW. My son gave it to me when he broke down his tank and I love it!

Yes very unusual, under appreciated, and interesting coral…

Corals pop nicely even with all my white light.

Just over a year and the first roots of my mangroves placed in rocks have reached the sand bed. I have been patiently waiting and it feels like a milestone. It will be interesting to see if this increases growth compared to the one that has not reached the sand yet?

14 months and over a foot of root growth…

That is some amazing growth my friend! Nice coral selection too.
I may find myself picking your brain about mangroves soon, if you don't mind.

I’m amazed daily by the mangroves and thanks. Ask away…
With pH, I don’t think I saw much of a pH boost. In Florida windows are closed, but with cool weather, I opened the windows and with that pH jumped, hitting 8.65 daily and no ill effects. I thought maybe it was get to high but no.

Im just up the Gulf Coast a little ways. It WOULD help us a lot if we didnt have to always keep the windows shut and the AC on wouldnt it?! Yeah I absolutely love the look of the mangroves. Yours look extra healthy and thriving more than most of them that I've seen. Do you know of a good online source to purchase these my friend?

I sell mangroves but I sold out last month, probably 6 months before I’m selling again. However, I bought my Black Mangrove for this lady over a year ago and it is doing good. My pot is still in her pictures.

I will see if I can find a Pic. They are doing well but are growing very

slowly which is ok with me.
I ended up taking a pic. The mangroves were ailing a bit until I hung a light primarily for their benefit. You can't see their roots in the tank because codium, a macroalgae is entwined in them.

While not required, however I believe daily misting with ro/di is helpful, but yes they grow slowly!
