I’ve had this feisty little ocellaris clown for 20 days. Every time I put my hand in to feed the corals or wipe the glass, she attacks me mercilessly. I use my hand to chase her into a hole and carry on but, as soon as I turn my hand away, she’s right back at it. I was feeling bad for freaking her out so I decided to extend and olive branch. And she took it. Today, I let her bite me and I didn’t respond (maybe just a little flinch). Didn’t move away, didn’t chase her off. Nothing. Just went about my business. And she accepted my presence in her space. She stopped nipping. Stayed real close. But stopped nipping. And just like that: we became friends. My friends, I’ve discovered that I am a genius. I shall, from this moment on, be called the clown whisperer

Mariette . . . um . . . well, we like you a lot and think you're really smart . . . but, um . . . I'm not totally convinced yet that you're a clown whisper. I'm expecting tricks like fetch, roll over, or getting twenty clownfish to fit into a sponge bob aquarium ornament! :D

. . . BTW, congratulations on making friends with your fish! :)

The fish has turned on me. After 3 weeks of fighting, I extended an olive branch yesterday which, to my surprise, was accepted. I thought the saga was behind us. Today, I was proven wrong. I was but an innocent victim, wiping the glass when I saw her approach. “Hello little guy” I quipped cheerily. But she had no mind for a friendly encounter. The attack was swift, hard, and merciless. I remained neutral, hoping to weather the storm and reach peace as I had done just the day before. But to no avail. She had come for blood. What a fool I have been.

So you went from fish whisperer to fish yeller? I won’t ask what you were yelling.

I’m definitely not throwing stones, I have been outwitted by fish more times than I can count!

It’s a sad sad state when you realize a fish has that much power over you lol

No worries. I still believe in you - you’ve got this!

As a wise person once said: “Patience my friend. Patience.”

Oh train me master lol. Mine has recently started to attack me as well. Yesterday I watched as the 2 of them worked together chasing my hand around the tank lol. I ended up just using gloves :p

Hadn’t seen the next post yet I see lol

On another note, I was hoping that getting her a partner wouldn’t result in a tag team. That the female would always be a jerk but the less dominant male would hang back. I may need gloves after all

No kidding, I swear they have figured out cause and effect!

I think they have figured out when they (cause) knock my torch over, "the pink skin" will no doubt rectify its previous position (effect). Giving them amble time to coordinate a bilateral assault on said vulnerable appendage.

Meanwhile my wrasse seems to like doing this.... o_O

Hahahaha hilarious. Any chance a captive bred one would be more tame?

And yeah, that’s wrasses for you. I hate when they hide and I get all worried but it’s better than sticking your hand into a tank full of toothless piranhas

Update: Cujo has been relocated from the 20g to my 110g. I was hoping the extra room would chill her out. I was mistaken. She's not guarding her little patch, she now darts across the entire 5 feet to launch her attacks.

You have to admire the consistency!
