so because my mandarin is eating pellets I was wondering.
Will it be better eating off the sand? (it seems to be ignoring any food on the rock)
Will it find pellets fast enough so it won't starve?
Should I be afraid of my 3 hermits attacking it?
THANKS ANY FEEDBACK IS HELPFUL

Pods should be first choice on food

its trained on pods, frozen, and pellets. I saw it eat pellets earlier but it seems to choose to just pick randomly around rocks. Any idea why
It's eating pods. That's its natural food.

will it still eat pellets and frozen? at the store it was no anything and the mandarins were eating size C pellets. If its only gonna start eating pods im gonna sell it as it won't be able to sustain itself

I wouldn't attempt to keep a mandarin if pods aren't available. That's what they're supposed to eat.

One issues with trained mandarins is even if they eat something else they are very slow eaters, which means that if you feed frozen or pellets, your other fish or inverts will most likely get the food before the mandarin does. Because of that you have to feed multiple times a day to make sure he is getting something to eat.

Is your tank still the 13.5 nano? I definitely wouldn't keep a mandarin in a tank that small. Mine spends all day long picking at rocks and eating. Usually a 50gal mature tank is the minimum.

The fish will not survive just on pellets. You still need pods even if it’s “trained”

Yes its a 13.5 but here me out. I have a refugium, it's trained on prepared food, and i plan to leave it and grow it out and sell it back to trade for a small one. I kept mandarins before in my 30g no refugium and he was trained. Eventually I sold it and did the same thing
