Mangroves, Purigen, & Phosguard

I just added 9 mangroves to my 20gallon aquarium this week. I am also running Purigen & Phosguard. Should I get rid of the Purigen & Phosguard now that I have the mangroves?

My tank has been set up for about 2 months now and I have used Purigen and Phosguard for nearly the whole time so I am worried about what happens if I take it out.

Also do my mangroves roots need to be buried in substrate or is in open water fine?

Id leave the purigen and phosgaurd in until the mangroves develope roots into the sand bed. So no you dont need to bury te roots. Id continue to use both p and phosgaurd even after they root.

Do you need to be running the PhosGuard and Purigen? In other words, do you have a nutrient problem without them?

Mangroves are not the fastest growers and so are not the best for nutrient uptake; macros and carbon are going to be considerably more effective. My own cluster of trees grows much faster in higher nutrient systems (I flat out pollute my macro tank! :D ) so I think you have to ask yourself what their purpose really is - ornamental or functional.

No nutrient issues. I was running the Phosguard and Purigen to keep it that way.

Update: I sold the tank right before Duck Season and invested in some hunting gear!
