Do mangroves have to have a send bed to grow or can rock work too? I have a nuvo fusion 10 gal that I want to grow out of the back of the second chamber

Rock will work as well...
my local watering hole has two mangrove trees growing in their ponds and the roots are in a pile of rock...

Next question. Do you trim mangroves or when it's too big you toss them

I trim but only to get them branching more.

Rocks are fine. In fact I think they prefer it rather then sand? When I had mangroves in my old setup, I just jammed the base in a rock hole and the roots would grow within the rock tunnels. I never trimmed them. Just pulled of any dead or dying leaves. It is important to remove any dead leaves floating in the water as they will affect water parameters.

How would you trim to keep them down

I just used a pair of scissors, cutting as close as I could to the main stem.

IF YOU HAD TO OPERATE EVERYTHING ELSE MANUALLY, WHICH AUTOMATED SYSTEM WOULD YOU KEEP?
