Amazing reef tank. Can you share more recent photos of your reef tank? What is your light schedule?

From the main display tank, most of the water drains directly into a large needle wheel skimmer, a small percentage of water is diverted to a smaller display tank in the basement. That tank is approximately 90 gallons. The bottom is mostly filled with Hammer frags and the rest of the tank is medium sized Acro colonies and a large Blue Squamosa clam. Lighting consists of 4 t5 bulbs, 2 Blue Plus and 2 Coral Plus, combined with 2 Orphek OR3 LED strips.

Honestly, in my opinion, there are so many variables when trying to set up your lights, size of tank, mounting height, number of lights, how close together are the lights.

Set your lights so they look good to your eye, and check the light levels with a par meter. I shoot for 350 par at the top, 200 or so at the bottom, but I have a lot SPS.
Don’t ever run the Orpheks at 100%, that way your lights won’t overheat and will last for many years.

You have the most amazing SPS tank Mantis! You really have me thinking about going more mixed reef in my display again and dare I say adding a couple mushrooms here and there. Its so wonderful to be able to see such giant SPS colonies in a reef system. Well done!

Looking back to your reefing roots: Did you start with Instant Ocean salt?
