Hello, I been cycling my 100 gal Marine tank , doing the fish less method.
Adding ammonium chloride to 2ppm the waited to drop to 0 and then waited for the nitrites to go to 0 , and of course my Nitrates wen up to like over 50 . I did a 50% water change and add more ammonium chloride to 2ppm to monitor how much will be process in 24hr
Im using the hanna checker for the ammonia , but api for the rest.
After 24hr Amonia went down to .05 Nitrites .50 ppm , nitrates 10 ppm
After another 24hr nitrites went down to 0 and surprisingly my nitrates went down to 0 . I'm still don't understand how if this is a new tank and I don't have any algae or nothing to contribute to nitrate removal. Chatgpt sed I could have some low oxigen spots were some anaerobic bacteria is transforming the nitrates in to nitrogen gas . I have a wave maker and 2 power heads plenty of water movement I'm still confused how my nitrates are going down to 0 . I did confirm this by adding another 2ppm of ammonia and yes everything goes down to 0 in 48 hours.
