My large maroon has killed 3 "friends" I have purchased for it in the last year, I figured he might want a friend. turned out he didnt. After that adventure he got moved to a 10 by himself with his own BTA. He seems to like being alone and hardly ever leaves his BTA buddy. Now that he is out of the main tank I can get a pair of not maroon jerks to party in the big tank. i love my huge maroon, he looks cool but boy does have attitude. I wasn't aware of the aggressiveness of maroons when I bought him or I would have went a different route.

Has your maroon always been a lone clown? If so it is probably a she not a he and if your picking the largest of the group at the LFS then your probably buying another female and they will fight and the smaller will usually die

They are so hard to pair, but it's so rewarding when you finally do get a pair. I can't imagine how happy I'll be once they start laying eggs. Compare this to say Ocellaris, where you just throw 2 in and they will almost certainly pair up.

I had success once the female was mature enough and reach over 5” in length. But it sure is stressful trying to pair them.

"it"; probably a female was purchased as a pair. They live together for a long time with no issues until the great power outage. Thats when the smaller of the 2 died. I tried getting a bigger clown and I tried 2 smaller ones. The first one small and the last one super super small. I got tired of buying maroons at that point and just figured she or it is a loner.
