To me the column color of a magnifica anemone is 1/2 the beauty of these beautiful creatures. It’s a shame you hardly see them given their gorgeous colors.

I also noticed a small orange mass of tentacles in a crevice while admiring my tank under blues. I think maybe it could be a gold euphyllia baby? It definitely retracted when I poked it. It pays to admire the tank under pure actinics from time to time to catch what you otherwise maybe have missed. Hopefully it’s a baby gold torch!

A couple of exciting updates. More and more gold torch babies are growing big enough to spot. I’d estimate theres at least 15 growing in my display tank from the 2021 spawning event.

I also acquired a red gigantea anemone. At least I’m pretty sure it’s a red gigantea at this point in time. I put it through a full week of cipro to be safe and it’s acclimating in a frag tank right now. I’m hoping I can get the red gig to spawn with my other gigs and produce some amazing captive bred color morphs. Fingers crossed at least.

I did a glass scraping and big water change this weekend. I have to take a photo while the tanking is so sparkly!

I also put everyone through a bit of stress during the water change. I figured I would give them the experience of a storm at low tide to replicate natural conditions

I picked up some goodies from the lab at UT today. Going to try rearing some corals from larvae as practice for my 2022 spawn. Hopefully they can also be used for more research projects if they survive to maturity. They are Orbicella faveolata larvae, nothing fancy or exciting, but it’s for science!

I also added a flag fin angel today. My gold flake was a little upset at first, but they accepted each other by the end of the day.

Took a FTS before lights out too. The red gig has taken nicely and is holding its own on the island, even pushing out the green a little.
