I moved over another mag into my DT to Anemone Island. I got this mag as a bleached anemone about 2 years ago and it's been living in a basket ever since. I'm happy it will finally have it's rightful spot on Anemone Island.

This mille I got several years ago and I was so excited about it! Orange corallites, green tentacles, and purple tips. It was insane. It went into a stalled state after several rounds of tank issues, but has finally woken back up and regaining the glory it once had. A buddy of mine named it The Hotness.

Took some actinic shots tonight. Thought I would share some.

Gig's Guggle Bum mille
_DSC9476 2.jpeg

I noticed on the Guggle Bum that the polyps always look "noisy" to me. Like there's a lot going on color-wise. Tonight I zoomed in to discover the polyps have multi colors to them, with yellow tips. Pretty cool!

I had to frag my gold mille I imported from Australia when one branch started RTNing for no apparent reason. Easier to capture the colors of this beauty. Considering calling it the Fort Knox mille ;Joyful

This coral I got from UC 2 years ago. It's been stagnant for far too long, so I snipped it in hopes it will wake up. The frag I made looks outstanding now that I can get a good shot of it.

It’s been a tough week in Texas, but luckily I bought an emergency generator before things got too bad. I was lucky enough to only need to use it for 2 hours, and never lost power again. A lot of friends here in TX lost all their livestock, so I’m certainly thankful I came out unscathed.

Long time since posting. Parenthood and working multiple jobs takes its toll. Hit a minor speed bump with a delivery of diseased Mari milles, but I think the pathogen has burned itself out and things are returning to normal again. Nem island has never looked better!

I might be getting lucky with my spawning project at the University of Texas. I have several species that are gravid this week. I’m hoping at least 2 colonies of the same species will spawn at the same time.

Are you working on spawning sps?
Yes, I work part time for the University of Texas in the department of Integrative Biology. My job is to get Acros to spawn so they can perform genetic tests on the parents and progeny to get a better idea of how genes are passed from parents to their offspring. Hopefully it will lead to some insight into how coral reefs will fare in the future with higher ocean temperatures.

We had a nice 5 hour power outage last night from a crazy storm that rolled in. Luckily I had purchased a generator before the big winter storm (all these crazy storms are really getting old). While I had nothing else to do I took a few iPhone photos with the actinics on. Not great quality, but enjoy!

Exciting times last night! I experienced my first successful spawning. Unfortunately only 2 colonies spawned and they were of different species, so no fertilization this time around. But I’m optimistic for the next one! My two colonies that spawned were orange setosa and Gigs Mothra Mille:

My purple gig also seems to be splitting. I can’t be certain it’s not just a tear , but it’s been this way for a week. It would be cool if it does split naturally!
