Hi All,

I’ve got a love for pod eaters. But the thought always comes up - how many is too many?

Have: Mandarin, and 2 leopard wrasses.

Want: dragonface pipefish 1 or 2 (last one made friends with a power head, happily lived in the tank for 2.5yrs), ruby dragonette, and more leopard wrasses.

Tank is 150 gallons, very mature, lots of pods. Current mandarin and leopards eat prepared foods but peck around the tank between meals.

Do you think I could get away with 3-4 leopards, 2 pipefish, a mandarin, and a red dragonette? Phyto dosed weekly.

Cheers!

i cant think

Yes. The only fish that won’t wait for their next meal are the two Dragonets, the others will have breaks between feedings. And honestly, look at most of the wrasse lovers tanks. You’ll likely find a dragonet somewhere among the 5-10+ wrasses.

There's probably not a straightforward answer to this question. The answer is likely your own observation. I wish there was a straightforward answer because I love wrasses. I'm trying to balance pest control (preventative) against microfauna population.
